Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Oyo-Osun Customs command gets new Comptroller

A new area comptroller for the Oyo/Osun command of the Nigeria Custom Service, Joseph Adelaja has assumed office.

He succeeds Dr. Ben Oramalugo, who has been transferred to the Seme border.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command newly posted Public Relations Officer, Abdumalik Akintola on Saturday and made available to newsmen.

The statement added that Comptroller Adelaja will oversee the command’s operations, including revenue generation, anti-smuggling efforts, and enforcement of customs regulations.

The Oyo/Osun Area Command has been active in combating smuggling and generating revenue for the government, with a notable achievement of generating over eighty two billion naira in 2024

The new comptroller, according to the statement, gave his assurance of building on the successes of his predecessor, while introducing new strategies to enhance the command’s performance.
