Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Police apprehend electricity transformer cable vandal in Osun




Operatives of the Osun State Police Command have apprehended a transformer vandal identified as Yusuf Adamu.

According to information obtained from the Osun Command Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola on Thursday, the suspect, Adamu was apprehended on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at about 11:45pm.

Opalola said, “The incident happened on 02/06/2024 at about 11:45pm. Informations was received by operatives of Police Divisional Headquarters ‘B’ Division Ede that a young man later identified as Yusuf Adamu who hails from Kebbi State was seen moving at night with electricity transformer’s cable which was suspected to have been removed from a transformer.

“Upon receipt of this information, a team of operatives swung into action and arrested the said suspect who was still in possession of the exhibit.

“He has confessed to the crime. Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing.”

She added that the case will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation
