Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Osun inaugurates NYSC Governing Board

 


The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has charged the newly inaugurated members of the Osun State Governing Board of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to remain committed to the service and welfare of corps members in the state.


Governor Adeleke, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Olagunju Moshood Olalekan, gave this charge during the inauguration of the governing board members on Thursday at the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Osun State Government Secretariat, Abere.


The Osun helmsman emphasised the importance of dedication and availability, encouraging members to respond promptly whenever duty calls.

“The welfare and development of corps members must remain our top priority. I urge all board members to always be ready to serve,” he said.


The governor also reaffirmed its commitment to providing the necessary resources and support for the smooth operation of the NYSC scheme.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of the NYSC South West Area Office 1, Olubukola Abiodun, commended the Osun State Government for its continued support of the NYSC.


She stressed the importance of collaboration in ensuring the success of the scheme.

“The NYSC remains a vital institution in fostering national unity and development. The support from the Osun State Government has been instrumental, and we look forward to further strengthening this partnership,” she stated.


The ceremony was attended by principal officers of the ministry and appointed board members.
