Osun: Fire Destroy Property Worth N15.3bn in 2024

    Osun State Fire Service says property worth N15,308,651,017 were lost to fire outbreaks in the state between January and December 2024. The losses were recorded in the state fire service's annual ‘fire incident record,’ which the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) obtained on Friday in Oshogbo. According to the data, the state fire service received 103 fire outbreak calls in the year under review, and it attended to 16 additional non-fire-related calls. The data also reflected that the majority of the fire outbreaks took place in February and December when 20 fire outbreaks were recorded each. Oyo State Community Development Board Chairman Initiates Psychological Support Program, Palliative Distribution for Residents





In a remarkable display of compassion and community engagement, the Chairman of the Oyo State Community and Social Development Board, Hon. Abideen Adetokunbo Adeaga, along with other distinguished dignitaries  hosted a transformative Psychological Support Program for vulnerable individuals in the Lagelu and Akinyele local government areas of Oyo State.

Among those present at the gathering were the incoming Chairman Lagelu local government, Hon. Kamorudeen, vice chairman Hon.Sodiq, Oyo State woman leader Alhaja Wulemat, and former chairman local government, Jide Adeniran.

 Hon. Adeaga, leading the initiative, demonstrated a strong commitment to the well-being of the community by organizing a comprehensive psychological support program. 

In his keynote address, Honourable Adeaga said in view of the adverse effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on livelihood, the NG-CARES intervention was inaugurated to cushion the effects in which five agencies were involved in the state called OYO CARES (Oyo State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus). He further appreciated the efforts of the Oyo State governor, His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde who had graciously approved and funded the agency to carry out basic infrastructure such as Health Care Centres, Schools Development, Environmental Sanitation in (11) communities across the three senatorial constituencies.

The event aimed to address the emotional and mental well-being of the vulnerable population in Lagelu and Akinyele local governments.In addition to the psychological support program, Hon. Adeaga and his team distributed palliatives to alleviate the economic challenges faced by residents, providing a tangible solution to cushion the impact of the harsh economy in the state.This thoughtful initiative not only reflects the dedication of Hon. Adeaga and the Oyo State Community Development Board to community welfare but also underscores their responsiveness to the pressing needs of the people.

 The psychological support program is expected to have a lasting positive impact on the mental health of the vulnerable individuals in the community.The beneficiaries of the program expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Adeaga and the dignitaries for their benevolence. The palliatives distributed are seen as a timely and much-needed relief for families grappling with economic challenges.The event was graced by several keynote dignitaries, further emphasizing the significance of the initiative. Their presence added weight to the message of community support and solidarity.

In their separate remarks, some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Salami and Mr Sulimonn described the initiative as a good relief which had never happened before in Lagelu and Akinyele local government of Oyo State. Honourable Adeaga in less than four weeks of the assumption in office has done incredibly well which no one has done to wards 1-14 in Lagelu and 1-12 in Akinyele local government. Also, Mayegun of Akobo land, Hon Benedict Akika also said during the initiative that Honourable Adeaga has surpassed human understanding of coming to the grass root level of meeting the need of his constituency.

This transformative event serves as a beacon of hope during challenging times, showcasing the power of community leaders and stakeholders to make a positive impact. The Oyo State Community and Social Development Board, under the leadership of Hon. Adeaga, continues to be at the forefront of initiatives that prioritize the well-being of the community.
