Adeleke unveils new measuring bowl for Osun marketers, urges compliance

The Osun State Governor, Mr Ademola Adeleke, on Monday unveiled new measuring bowl called ‘Osunwon imole,’ for use in markets across the state, demanding cooperation of traders to achieve seamless implementation of the initiative.

Adeleke, while speaking at the event where the measuring bowl was revealed in Osogbo, said introduction of the initiative was meant to restore fairness in trade and protect interests of all stakeholders.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy Governor, Mr. Kola Adewusi, recalled how use of substandard measuring bowls in markets had caused untold hardship for both buyers and sellers in the state.

“Many of our traders, knowingly or unknowingly, have used inaccurate measures that lead to losses for consumers and undermine trust in business transactions.

“Recognising this challenge, our administration has taken decisive action by introducing Osunwon Imole to restore fairness in trade and protect the interests of all stakeholders.

“There is no doubt that standardization plays a crucial role in economic development. It builds trust, enhances efficiency, and makes our markets more competitive,” Adeleke said.

By adopting ‘Osunwon Imole,’ Adeleke said his administration had sent a strong message that the State was committed to upholding the highest standards of quality and integrity.

He noted that initiative aligns with the broader policy of fostering a thriving business environment, encouraging investments, and promoting sustainable economic growth.

He further said, “The Osunwon Imole will serve as a reliable and accurate measuring tool for our market men and women, ensuring consistency in trade practices.

“It will eliminate discrepancies, promote transparency, and strengthen trust between buyers and sellers. This will not only benefit individuals but also contribute to the overall economic stability of our state.

“As we launch this new standard measuring bowl today, I urge all stakeholders—our Iyalojas, Babalojas, Egbe-Olowo, and all others who use measuring bowls in their businesses—to embrace this transition wholeheartedly.”

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Bunmi Jenyo, said the government would ensure diligent implementation of the initiative.
