Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Avoid corrupt practices — Governor Adeleke charges appointees

 

 


Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has called on key stakeholders in his administration to shun every form of corrupt practice which can have negative impact on the people of the State.

The Governor gave the charge at the beginning of a 3-day strategic retreat and onboarding programme for new political office holders and key stakeholders of Osun State in Ede. Governor Adeleke also charged the political office holders to be innovative, diligent and prudent.

According to the Governor, he stated that his administration was poised on a 5-point agenda, which encapsulates workers’ welfare, boosting businesses and reviving the State economy, through the introduction of policies that would boost the State’s GDP.

“There must be a collaborative effort to reform education, health, agriculture and peoples’ welfare.

“Osun is blessed with resources which can be used to create wealth for the people.

“I want you to know that this is our State and we must do everything possible to develop it. This State is blessed with resources which, if well managed, can improve our economy and at the same time, create wealth for all and sundry.

“I want to task and share with you principles of unity to achieve collective success.

“Please, avoid infighting and you must work together as a team to achieve the desired goals. Political appointees and Permanent Secretaries must work within the public service rules,” he said.

He also charged the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to carry the various House Committees along in the activities of their Ministries.
