Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. GROUP, RESIDENTS PROTEST IN OSUN OVER SUBSIDY REMOVAL, NAIRA FLOATING

 


Following the hardship faced by many Nigerians as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy, a coalition of civil society groups in Osun State have taken to the streets to protest against the economic hardship in the country.

The protesters, who converged at the Ayetoro area of Osogbo at about 8 am, marched to major areas of the city with placards in their hands.

Speaking at the protest ground, chairman of the coalition, Comrade Waheed Lawal, noted that Nigerians are faced with the issue of poverty, hunger, confusion and palpable frustration as a result of the economic policies of President Tinubu.

The protesters called on the federal government to put in place palliatives to cushion the effects of the removal of petrol subsidy on Nigerians.

They also demanded an end to the Naira floating policy and the reversal of other economic policies that have made life difficult for Nigerians.
