Osun: Fire Destroy Property Worth N15.3bn in 2024

    Osun State Fire Service says property worth N15,308,651,017 were lost to fire outbreaks in the state between January and December 2024. The losses were recorded in the state fire service's annual ‘fire incident record,’ which the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) obtained on Friday in Oshogbo. According to the data, the state fire service received 103 fire outbreak calls in the year under review, and it attended to 16 additional non-fire-related calls. The data also reflected that the majority of the fire outbreaks took place in February and December when 20 fire outbreaks were recorded each. Property worth millions of naira has been destroyed as a result of a fire incident that ravaged no fewer than eight shops in Oyo town.

According to report, the incident occurred at Oke Asamu, Kosobo area of Oyo town in the early hours of Tuesday. It was learned that no fewer than eight shops were affected as properties worth millions of naira was destroyed as a result of the fire.

The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the development to on Tuesday.

Akinyinka, while reacting, confirmed that eight shops were affected. He said, “At the early hour on Tuesday, 18th February, 2025, Oyo State Fire Services’ Control Room Center received a distress call.

“The fire personnel, led by ACFS Oyedeji, were promptly deployed to the scene of the incident and arrived at the scene on time.

“The fire affected eight shops out of eighteen rows of multiple shops.”
