Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Fire Averted in Ibadan as another petroleum tanker falls

Another petroleum tanker has fallen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.


The accident occurred around 11am on Sunday at Tose area Moniya in Akinyele local government area.


General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka confirmed the development. Mr Akinyinka said the accident was reported to the agency’s control room at exactly 11:11hrs of Sunday.



He added that the agency immediately deployed its men to the scene of the incident to avert any likely fire hazard that might trigger as a result of petroleum spillage.

He said that policemen are also on ground to curb the illegality of the public scooping of fuel.

He said “On arrival all necessary action was done by blanketing the spillage with chemical compound to neutralize the flammability of the content.

“The Nigerian police are also on ground to curb the illegality of the public scooping the petrol.

“The agency’s personnel are still on standby”
