Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Adeleke to Osun Residents, You will enjoy improved welfare services


Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, promised that his administration would give adequate attention to the welfare of the citizenry, by making provision of soft infrastructure available in the 2025 fiscal year.


He reiterated that the state government had not borrowed or obtained loan in the last two years to implement or fund capital projects and other socio-economic programmes.


Addressing the people of the state in the new year, Adeleke, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, listed successes of his administration across the sectors, noting that 2025 would witness new and continuation of old social programmes designed to cushion the effect of the hard time on the citizens.


While pledging completion of all ongoing projects and the new ones captured in the 2025 budget, the governor emphasized that his motivation remains to see to the well-being Osun people. He promised “to remain as before a responsive, listening, and compassionate governor.”


While extending an olive branch to members of the opposition parties, Adeleke argued that he had kept faith with his pledge for transparency and accountability in governance, noting that “in the last one year, we got and processed several requests for information based on the Freedom of Information Act.

We ensured access to information as a transparent and accountable government.”
