Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Osun govt to recruit 5,250 teachers, education officers

 


Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State says he has approved the recruitment of 5,250 teachers and education officers in the state.

Adeleke made this known during the second edition of “Ipade Imole”, a forum where he gave stewardship to the people of the state on Tuesday in Ilesa.

He said the move was meant to strengthen teaching and learning in the state.

The governor said, “We have approved the recruitment of 5,250 teachers and education officers to strengthen teaching and learning in our schools.

“The process will soon be finalisd and the new teachers will soon be unveiled.

“We are not just recruiting teachers, we are going to equip them with necessary skills to deliver world class teaching standard to our children.”

Adeleke said his administration was promoting local contents in implementing its policies and programmes across all sectors.

He added that the implementation of his administration’s five-point agenda is progressing very well, adding that, “From workers welfare to social welfare programmes, we have remained committed to pro-people agenda.”

Adeleke announced the conclusion of deliberations of his government’s food security committee.

“We shall soon begin full implementation of the recommendations of the committee to ensure food sufficiency for the people of Osun State,” he added.
