Amotekun nabs suspected fraudster lured to Osun by girlfriend

The Osun State Command of the Amotekun Corps, on Sunday, said it had arrested one Adegoroye Akinola on the suspicion that he defrauded nine people of a sum of N1.5m.

A statement by the command signed by Idowu Yusuff, the Public Relations Officer of Osun Amotekun Corps, said the suspect carried out the act on the pretence of assisting the victims in processing the Corporate Affairs Commission’s company registration and procurement of passports.

Yusuff also said Akinola perpetrated the act at Oluyole Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, adding that Osun Amotekun got involved in the matter, when the complaint was lodged at its Gbongan, Ayedaade Local Government Area office by the victims.

Explaining further the offence committed by the suspect, the Amotekun spokesperson said, “Osun Amotekun on Tuesday arrested a 51-year-old man, identified as Adegoroye Adefola Akinola, an indigene of Igbara Odo of Ekiti State for allegedly defrauding nine victims of N1,597.000 at Oluyole Area of Ibadan in Oyo State under the guise of processing C.A.C. registration and passports for them.”

The statement further read, “The suspect was arrested after a complaint was lodged at the Amotekun Ayedaade Command in Gbongan and our operatives swung into action immediately by tracking the suspect after he absconded from Ibadan to Igbara Odo in Ekiti State after perpetrating the evil act.

“He was constantly changing his mobile number, hence it was difficult to find out his whereabouts. However, during a technical analysis, the Amotekun (operatives) discovered that he was in Igbara Odo in Ekiti State. He was arrested following a tip-off from his girlfriend when she was asked to call and invite him to Gbongan for business and he was apprehended.”

Commenting on the development, the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander,  Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), said the suspect had been handed over to Amotekun Oyo State Command for further interrogation and prosecution
