Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Man kills 100-year-old mother in Osun

 


Operatives of the Osun State Police Command has arrested a 63-year-old man, Lukman Adejoju for the alleged killing of his 100-year-old mother.

Adejoju, a resident of Kajola village, Apomu in Isokan local government area of the state allegedly killed his mother, Aminat over palm oil sales.

The spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola while confirming the arrest, revealed that the suspect and his mother were both going to the farm when the quarrel started.

Opalola also disclosed that the suspect confessed that he pushed the deceased and she fell and died.

She added that the suspect had been transferred to the command’s headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital, for further investigation.

“They were both going to farm when they disagreed. The suspect said he could not explain the spirit that possessed him.

“He admitted that he pushed the deceased who should be about 100 years old, and the woman fell and died.

“He has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in the headquarters in Osogbo for further investigations,” the PPRO said.

The incident, according to reports led to tension in the community, with police personnel and NSCDC operatives intervening to douse the tension.

Also, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke, said the suspect was arrested and taken to a police station in Apomu.

She added that normalcy had returned to the village where the incident happened.
