Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Robbers invade three communities in Ibadan


 Armed robbers on Tuesday morning invaded three communities in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The robbers were said to have carted away money, phones, pieces of jewelry and other items.

The affected communities include Alaja, Seriki, and Ogogo on the new Ibadan/Oyo Expressway in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state. According to reports, the incident happened around 3 a.m.

A community leaders, Raji Kazeem, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent said, “Yes, it was true. The armed robbers came in the mid the night and robbed some houses. That’s why you saw landlords and landladies discussing in different groups.”

As of press time, all efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were not successful as he did not pick up his calls nor respond to the messages sent to his mobile number.
