Osun student electrocuted with plugged phone

A 100-level student of University of Ilesa, Osun State, Gbolahan Ojolo, has reportedly died of electrocution triggered by lightning strike in his hall of residence in Ilesa, the Nation reports. Ojolo, a student in the Department of Business Administration, was said to be charging his phone and playing a game on it at the same time when thunder struck. Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the incident happened on Friday. Ojo’s statement partly read, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of one of its students, Gbolahan Ojolo, a 100 Level student of the Department of Business Administration. “The unfortunate incident occurred in the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Ondo Gov, Akeredolu Returns To Nigeria



The governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredoku, returned to the country yesterday.

Governor Akeredolu, who has been on medical vacation in Germany for weeks, landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja at about 3:20 pm through a private jet with United Aviation flight number N728LB.

The governor was flown out of the country to Germany on May 31 to get foreign medical attention.

Following rumours of his deteriorating health, pictures and videos of the governor have been circulated on social media to dispel rumours of his death.

While recuperating, he had written to the state House of Assembly to seek an extension of his medical leave.

His deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa, has been acting in his stead for over three months.
