Oyo Kingmakers Who Collected Bribe May Be Prosecuted -Makinde

  Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has threatened to prosecute and punish all Chiefs or Kingmakers within the Oyomesi or others, who might have collected bribe or gratification in the selection process that culminated into the emergence Akeem Abimbola Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo. This followed reports that cash was allegedly offered to some chiefs by a contender for the Alaafin stool. Makinde issued the warning on Monday during the official presentation of the Staff of Office and Certificate of Appointment to Oba Owoade.  Owoade succeeded late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, whose reign lasted for five decades. SUBSIDY REMOVAL: Oyo workers block secretariat gate, demand palliatives



Hundreds of civil servants in Oyo state on Monday blocked the gate to the state government secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

The secretariat houses the governor’s office, government ministries, agencies and departments in the state.

The workers blocked the entrance into the state’s secretariat to demand an audience with Governor Seyi Makinde over issues affecting their service to the state.

The workers are demanding palliatives, upward review of pension allowances, and payment of salary deduction, amongst others.


Workers from various trade unions in the state, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and their affiliate bodies were all present at the rally.

The workers are also demanding payment of leave bonuses, gratuities to retirees that have stagnated since 2021 and the release of promotion letters for the years 2021 and 2022.

Some of the inscriptions on their cards read: “We want to meet with the Governor and not his representative”, “Our full salary is not enough for our transport to our place of work”
